National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) was created in October 2005 as an independent institution out of the former Department of Statistics in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) and the National Service of Census. NISR mission is to assume the leading role in improving capacity to use information for evidence based decision-making by coordinating national effort to collect and archive reliable data, to analyze, document and disseminate data within an integrated and sustainable framework. NICR Vision is to develop and sustain a culture of excellence in statistical production and management of national development

      In the first quarter of 2023, GDP at current market prices was estimated at RFW 3, 901 billion, up from RFW 3,021 billion in Q1 2022. In this quarter, services sector contributed 44 percent of GDP, agriculture sector contributed 27 percent of the GDP, Industry sector contributed 22 percent of the GDP and 8 percent was attributed to adjustment for taxes and subsidies on products.

      In the third quarter of 2022, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Frw 3,583 billion, up from Frw 2,758 billion in same quarter of 2021. In this quarter, services contributed 47 percent of GDP, Agriculture contributed 24 percent of GDP, Industry contributed 21 percent of GDP and 8 percent was attributed to adjustment for taxes and subsidies on products. In the third quarter of 2022, total final consumption expenditure increased by 17 percent, with Household final consumption increasing by 17 percent while Government final consumption increased by 19%. Exports increased by 36 percent; imports increased by 11 percent while Gross Capital Formation decreased by 31 percent.

      Rwanda’s general Producer Price Index combining both prices for local and export products registered an annual increase of 7.7 percent in June 2021. Monthly general PPI increased by 2.1 percent. Local PPI increased by 3.7 percent in June 2021, and Export PPI increased by 25.6 percent in June 2021.
