Australian Bureau of Statistics

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is the statistical agency of the Government of Australia. The ABS provides key statistics on a wide range of economic, population, environmental and social issues, to assist and encourage informed decision making, research and discussion within governments and the community.

      The strategy integrates the collection and quality assurance of data required for input into both the ABS’s Business Characteristics Longitudinal Statistics (BCLS) and the production of point in time estimates for: use of information technology; innovation; and a broad range of other non-financial business characteristics. A more detailed set of items of either business innovation or business use of IT are collected every second year (i.e. in alternating years).

        Preliminary estimates derived from a sample survey of private businesses. Contains estimates of actual and expected new capital expenditure by type of asset (new buildings and other structures/equipment, plant and machinery) and by selected Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification industries. These statistics are expressed in current prices and chain volume measures, in original, seasonally adjusted and trend terms and are available for Australia and by state/territory.
